The Greatest of These is Love

now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love. – 1 Corinthians 13:13

Love is a subject that is talked about a lot in the Bible. Of all the spiritual gifts it is listed as the greatest one. It is a gift that God gives us so that we can give it away. There is no benefit to us or anyone else if we hold on to it. Serving with the church in Tel Aviv, we see the gift of God’s love being shared in abundance! Love both given and received.

We have had several groups come this year and share their love by bringing supplies for the church and the homeless as well as by serving with the church here. One group came and helped with the soup kitchen and did an outreach on the beach.

Another group came on a tour and brought many needed supplies. One of the couples from this group stayed extra days because they really wanted to meet the people from the church here in Tel Aviv. It was awesome to see them connect with the fellowship here and to see that connection continue even now months later.

There was a group from China who came on a private tour. They took time out from touring to serve in the soup kitchen and attend church services. Spending time with this group was especially touching as we saw them enjoying the freedom to talk openly about their faith (something they are not allowed to do at home). It was a true blessing to meet them and to see how they were deeply touched as they experienced the unity of the spirit with other believers from around the world!

by this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. – John 13:35

The students from the Bible College also came and shared their love with us by helping clean and organize the church building. Not a very exciting task, but they were all eager to help and served with joy!

The members of Calvary Chapel Tel Aviv are truly a remarkable group of people. This is a small fellowship, yet it ministers to people from literally all over the world. Many people come to church here because they are in Israel for work, or with a tour, on vacation or because they or a loved one are receiving medical treatment in the hospitals here. We have had people attending church here from Singapore, India, Russia, Egypt, Japan, China and South America just to name a few.

All dear brothers and sisters who pass through our doors for one reason or another, whatever the reason, they all return to their homes having been touched by God’s love through the members of the fellowship here in Tel Aviv.

Greetings from Pastor John and our friends at Calvary Chapel Tel Aviv

As the world continues to become a darker place in these last days, it is the love of God that will shine bright in the lives of believers. It is this love that will draw people into a saving relationship with Him. Sharing God’s love is one of the greatest ways to show a lost world who Jesus is. It is a supernatural love and as we love those around us, God is made known and is able to touch many lives.

Let your light so shine among men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven. – Matthew 5:16

Praise Reports & Prayer Requests

Thank you for praying for our Church-Online. It’s been such a blessing watching the Lord opening doors with it. We consistently average 35-40 people watching each weekend. Not everyone uses the chat feature, so we are praying that more will start. The good thing though, is the ones that are using it, look forward to “chatting” with each other each week. Friendships are being built. Currently Stephen’s teaching starts at 7:00 pm Friday nights in Israel (chat opens at 6:45). We’ve had several Israeli’s ask if we could move it to 9:00 pm; after their Shabbat Dinner.

Please pray for wisdom concerning this. The majority of Israelis, even secular Jews, have Shabbat dinners with their friends and family. Changing the time makes sense, we didn’t think about Shabbat dinners. At the same time, because we consistently have people watching, we want to really pray and know it’s the Lord directing the time change.

Thank you for praying for wisdom for us as far as the location for Calvary Chapel Tel Aviv’s Shabbat Service. We feel the Lords leading to continue meeting at the Ministry Apartment through the rest of the year. The people in the congregation like it, plus it’s enabled them to have a Shabbat meal & Fellowship after each service. Please pray for wisdom and clear direction for next year.

Also keep the Haifa Fellowship in your prayers. Praise God, He’s blessing it and it’s growing out of its current location. Pray the Lord will quickly open up another area.

Please keep Pastor John (CC Tel Aviv) and Yossi (CC Haifa Fellowship) in your prayers. We are so blessed watching the Lord work in these two fellowships. Our prayer is that through the Church Online, we will be able to plant more fellowships. Also, thank you for your prayers and support which is enabling all the various ministries to continue (congregations, home fellowships, soup kitchen, medical ministries, etc).

In His unfailing care,

Alex & Paula Chernyshov
